Folks, I need a service manual for a Gateway 2000 Colorbook,
model CB4DX475, Also known as a DX4/75. Yeah, I know
it's a *old* computer, but I still use it a lot.
This weekend, I was using it and it suddenly turned itself off.
I re-inserted the power supply plug and I turned it back
on, it booted normally (in DOS). I used it
for maybe 3 minutes more and again it turned itself off.
I booted it again and it turned itself off again, only in this
event the usage was only ~30 seconds. Power was not
an issue....running off the AC supply. All connections are good
and the power supply is good. But now, it won't
turn on at all....no LED's, no clicks from the floppy
drive, no display, etc...it's DEAD!
Later, in trouble shooting with the covers off, I found
nothing obvious on the PC boards...nothing burned
out that I could see. The power was good
at the input of the power supply board. Two
of the capacitors had appropriate voltage
across them, the other two didn't....don't know
what's going on there.
The traces on the board are very difficult to follow!! So,
I need a repair manual, to go about troubleshooting this
in a logical manor. I suspect its a bad capacitor, especially
the tantalums. IC's in a well designed machine are usually
the last to go.
I seached the Internet for a repair manual. None on "the Bay",
that covers my machine, none on Amazon, none on any of
the computer forums and web sites including Gateway's.
So, does someone have a manual for this computer? Or,
any ideas on the cause of the problem the computer is having?
This has *never* been used on the internet, so I don't suspect
any viruses.
