My wide-format printer (Canon Pixma iX6520) takes sheets up to 13 x 19. It
does not take paper on a roll. Roll paper would be much more economical --
cheaper per square foot and no waste (cut it at the edge of the artwork;
never get left with a 6" piece you can't use for anything other than very
nice scratch paper; the 13 x 19 sheets I'm using cost a dollar each and up).
So I'm thinking....what's to prevent using roll paper anyway? I
experimented: I cut a piece of bond-weight paper (an old calendar page) into
a strip 8.5" x 24", loaded it in the paper tray with the end falling behind
the tray and onto the table, sent an 8.5" x 11" document to the printer, and
sure enough, the printer printed the document and then just fed out the
remaining blank section. Ok, so if I were using a roll of paper, I suppose
I'd have to hit the OFF button as soon as I saw the artwork had been
printed, or I could hold the roll to prevent its continued feeding,
whereupon the printer would throw a paper error and I would just cancel the
print job.
Has anyone tried this? Any tips?
