[Simply Computers] Re: reinstall Win 7 Pro witrh an OEM disk and number

If you run "System Information" that is included in Windows (Accessories, System Tools) you will not see the correct license.

If you run SIW (System Information for Windows), a free utility from Gabriel Topala (www.gtopala.com) you will find the correct license code by clicking the Licenses in the left column.

Is the reinstall disk for Windows 7 one that came with the computer, or with another computer?

Once installed and activated the first time, an OEM version is tied to the hard drive it is first installed on. If you try to use that disk on a different computer, it should not work.

If the disk you have is the one for your computer, you need to find the OEM license code.

After you've used it to install, run SIW and see what it gives you.

If it's different from the one that you've been trying, then try it.
