If you have a router, that is all the firewall you need. You can make sure the one in XP SP3 is on, for extra peace of mind.
I use Avast! and have no complaints.
Dump Norton and ZA.

The new version added an extra toolbar that rarely functioned. I have had Norton engineers go through my computer with a remote connection and they also said there was a problem with their product and the way it was acting. One of them actually wrote up a ticket to be sent to engineering for investigation and repair on their end. They finally said I could revert back to 2011, or just not use that feature. I have probably spent over 100 hours on Norton 2012.

My settings are all correct, but there is just no user friendly control. The new version also has a white message that slides from the bottom right corner that tells you everytime these scans and updates have been made. Usually this happens many dozen times a day. And when it does happen, everything slows down to a crawl. When it goes away, my computer returns to normal. Norton engineers have also tested my speed and found it to be excellent. I could list many other things but I will just let the product go and find something else. The Comodo and Avast are probably what I will go for, unless the free versions are lacking in basic features. I also may try a trial for the best paid version of Kaspersky. Hopefully it is not as slow and buggy as Norton. Thanks for the information and advice everyone.

I want to uninstall it using the add/remove...Reboot...Then use the Norton uninstall tool...(Norton 2012 was added to 2011)...Reboot and then use CCleaner. I have used AVG free and ZoneAlarm free and also used both of the paid pro versions in the past. They do not seem to get along and the reviews I have read on AVG 2012 suggests that there are many new problems.

Zone Alarm has usually been good, but a little bloated like Norton and some anti virus will not recognize Z/A. I do not mind if I have to pay for a complete security suite, but I could use some suggestions on something besides Norton or Webroot. I know nothing about Kaspersky or Trend Micro.

My Verizon connection is 15 over 5, if this would make some difference for the need of a free or stronger paid version. Might even be going back to dial up if Verizon carries through with their threat for a 50% increase in my monthly bill. Sorry for the long email and thank all of you in advance for any help.
