Hi all - new problem here.
I have a Dell Precision laptop with a Nvida (can't find the exact number) that has given me fits. I do know it has 512 MB Video RAM.
A few days ago, my computer screen went black. Thought it had somehow locked up and did a forced restart. When the 'puter came back up, the Windows XPPro screen has all these digitized patterns in the background. The Windows XP logo and progress bar showed, did the runthrough and then went black and stayed that way. I kept trying to get around it, finally got frustrated and did a reinstall (five tries at system restore did not help). Upon the reinstall all looked fine and I began reinstalling the drivers from a dell factory disk. Got the WIFI and sound drivers and when I installed the NVIDA drivers, the screen went black again immediately. I figured the source of my problems was the NVIDA drivers. I went to safe mode and was lucky enuff to find the NVIDA folder. I deleted it and everything came back. I was able to finish the install to near perfect cond. (I still have those digital patterns on start up and have not installed NVIDA anything).
Can you Gurus please give me your sage opinion on.... Do I need to get another graphics processor and if so, how difficult is it to install on a scale of 1 to 10? I am guessing (only guessing) that the NVIDA processor is okay because I am getting great video without installing any drivers.
My plan is to wait a couple days (I just created a restore point and repair disk) and try to install the NVIDA driver from the home website. I would ASSUME that if the flak hits the fan, it will mean the card needs replacing. Am I correct? Close to correct?
Thanks much & regards to all.....
