[Simply Computers] Need to know?

 

My windows XP has so many errors and screw ups I would like to upgrade to win. Vista, I know that is not the latest version but my laptop came loaded with vista and I can use it ok.
Are there any special inst. to upgrading like the above and will I need to reformat my C hard drive to preform this change over and or wipe out XP OS by some other means?
Thanks for any preventive advice to make this easier for an 60 yr. lady!
